TRIP DATES:  2010

  • Wednesday, Jan. 6
  • Tuesday, Jan. 12
  • Wednesday, Jan. 20
  • Tuesday, Jan. 26
  • Tuesday, Feb. 2

CRITICAL ITEMS TO BRING:

(note-if students forget to bring any of the following items, they will not be permitted to go on the trip. Students are not permitted to call home from school because something was left at home.)

• NCC members must bring their pass (NCC photo ID)

• Your equipment (skis/snowboard/boots/etc.) if you have your own equipment.

• appropriate clothing (i.e. hat, snow pants, gloves, goggles, helmet, etc.)

OTHER ITEMS TO BRING:

• packed lunch or money for dinner

• quarters or money for a locker/bin

• A wristwatch...there is a clock tower at Ski Liberty but it is not always reliable. You are responsible for boarding the bus at the designated time (8:40) regardless of whether the clock tower was correct or not!

HOW WILL I GET MY STUFF TO SCHOOL?

• You may arrange to have your parents bring your equipment/clothes to school in the morning between 8:00-8:30 am on the day of the trip or the afternoon the day BEFORE our trip between 3:15-3:40pm. DO NOT WALK THROUGH THE SCHOOL WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT...ENTER VIA THE BREEZEWAY AND GO DIRECTLY TO THE SKI/BOARD STORAGE AREA (TBD).

 • Pack all of your gear in ONE BAG and label it clearly with your name. Unlabeled bags could be accidentally left behind!

WHEN WILL WE BE DISMISSED FROM SCHOOL TO GO ON THE TRIP?

• You will be dismissed with the 1st bus wave. Make sure you pack up everything you’ll need for the evening...you WILL NOT be permitted to go back to your locker when we come back to school.

WHEN WILL I GET MY HOMEWORK COMPLETED?

  • Most students complete their work on the bus ride up to Ski Liberty
  • Parents and students need to plan ahead for this.  Teachers try to remind students but we don't always know who has what assignments.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN WE GET TO SKI LIBERTY?

• You will go directly to the ticket window to get your lift, lesson and rental ticket. Then change into your snow gear (if you haven’t already).

• Next, you’ll go to the rental area with your lift ticket and Night Club Card.

• Hit the slopes!!!

• Employees are usually very abundant and helpful.

• If your package includes lessons, the lesson times are 4:30, 5:45 and 7:00 pm.

WHAT IF I NEED TO FIND A TEACHER OR THERE’S AN EMERGENCY?

• The advisors will have pagers from Ski Liberty and they will contact us if there is an emergency or behavior issue. Contact an employee and tell them your name and group name (WMS) and they will assist you.

• There will be teachers and parents on the mountain skiing (or snowboarding) and/or in the lodge.

• Message centers are located at the bottom of each lift. If we need to contact you, we will post a message with the lift operators. Be sure to check the board each time you load the lift for any possible messages.

SAFE SKIING/RIDING AND BEHAVIOR:

• Always use the buddy system! Do not ski/ride alone!!

• If you or your friend is hurt on the slope, do not move the injured the person. Place your skis/board uphill from the injured person and send the next available person to inform the lift operator located at the top or bottom of the slope. He/she will notify the ski patrol and they will notify the advisors.

• You may not carry any medication without permission from CCPS. CCPS staff members will have emergency information and medication.

• If we are contacted for a behavioral concern, the student could lose bus privileges for future trips.

• You are students from WMS and are therefore representing our school. Courtesy, cooperation, and respect will be demonstrated at all times and places! (Lift lines, on the chairs, in the lodge, on the bus, etc.)

WHAT TIME ARE WE LEAVING SKI LIBERTY TO COME BACK TO WMS?

• We will be leaving at 8:50pm. You need to plan to be on the bus by 8:40pm.

• The buses will be at the same location where they drop us off.

• All students are required to return on the buses. You may NOT ride home with a parent unless you have submitted notification PRIOR to our trip date.

WHEN/WHERE SHOULD MY PARENTS PICK ME UP?

• We plan to return to the school by 9:30 pm.

• Parents, we make every possible effort to be punctual (and we almost always are). Your promptness is greatly appreciated.

• The school will be unlocked for you to pick up your belongings from Mr. Berry’s or Mrs. Bair’s room. You will not be permitted to go to your locker or any other area of the school.

WHAT IF TRIPS ARE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER?

• If school is closed, then our trip is cancelled.

• If you’re not sure, call Mrs. Bair at school or email ( jlbair@k12.carr.org ). DO NOT CALL SKI LIBERTY!

• When a trip is cancelled, the call has to made before noon or the bus money is forfeited. We make every effort to make a sound decision; however, when in doubt, we will cancel a trip rather than risk the safety of our students. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
