Daily and Weekly Assignment:

• Home Reading Log:  Students are required to read 15 minutes each night, Mon.-Thurs.  They are asked to record their time, title, author, pages read, and parent comments on their Home Reading Log sheet.  Logs are due into  the teacher each Friday of every week.  Homework usually counts 12 points per week.

• Spelling and Vocabulay:  Students usually have weekly spelling and vocabulary lists.  Independent work will be assigned for each unit. Students will be assessed on the following:

    *how each word is spelled

    *definitions, parts of speech,

    *synonyms and antonyms

    *how words are used in context

    *multiple meanings of words

• Grammar:  Students will have warm-ups and various grammar lessons throughout the marking periods.  Grammar is also integrated within the context of teaching writing.
