Greetings:

My name is Brad Engel and I am currently the Maryland Teacher of the Year for 2005. I am writing to you because of a new statewide initiative called
“T-E-A-M(Thanking Educators Across Maryland)” part of the Maryland Pride Program to celebrate and recognize Maryland Public School Educators across the state of Maryland who inspire, encourage and motivate their students to high levels of achievement.

Here’s how the program works:

1. Any student, parent, co-worker or community member may nominate an educator by filling out a form and writing a thank you letter to that teacher.
2. The forms are sent in to the www.Thinkport.org website sponsored by Maryland Public television for Maryland educators.
3. Once a submission has been authenticated, it will appear on the www.Thinkport.org website.
4. Each recipient will receive:
a. A special letter of commendation from the Maryland State Department of Education
b. A certificate of recognition,
c. A copy of the original thank you letter,

The award packet will be mailed to the school in care of the Principal who will decide how to make the presentation.

I know so many teachers who are too private and too humble to seek out any kind
of recognition for themselves. I don’t think we can give our teachers enough recognition for the job they do. A kind word from an appreciative student or parent means so much to a deserving teacher and is so critical to providing good feelings within the teaching profession. We simply don’t thank our teachers enough.

This is a simple and inexpensive way to celebrate and recognize teachers all across the state. All public school teachers can receive a nomination. All the forms and information will appear on the www.Thinkport.org website and we will explore other avenues of publicity.

Please join us in our efforts. We are looking currently seeking partners for the T-E-A-M (Thanking Educators Across Maryland). Each award will cost about $4 dollars each. Our goal is to have 200 educators recognized by the end of the year.

If you would like to become a part of this wonderful opportunity, please feel free to contact me. Thank you in advance for your consideration of this proposal.

Sincerely,

Brad Engel
