Lesson Objectives:
- Students will understand the goals and objectives of the Mentor Advisory Program
- Students describe the benefits of goal setting.
- Students will discuss their short and long-term goals personal and academic goals.
M-A-P Outcomes
- An advisory program should ensure that every student has the opportunity to feel known, heard, and understood.
2. Through M-A-P, students can gain key academic and social competencies that they will need to navigate through high school and make a seamless transition to career or college.
3. M-A-P gives students the opportunity to make meaningful connections with staff mentors, student mentors, and other students.
4. Positive peer leadership plays a big part in developing a positive peer culture
What you need for this lesson

_____Copies of career portfolio for each student( M-A-P folder on common teacher file)
_____Folder for each student(placed in your mailboxes 9/17)
_____Attendance sheet (in M-A-P folder on common teacher)
_____A meeting with your peer leader to plan lesson together
***We will provide all poster making supplies(poster board, glue, scissors, magazines, markers and we will bring poster board and markers to your group at the beginning of the lesson

Open the lesson by sharing information about the Mentor Advisory Program
Suggested format:
Who?- Talk about yourself and perhaps share any relevant background information.
What?- M-A-P(Mentor Advisory Program) is…
M-A-P is an extension of the guidance department and a primary vehicle for creating a more personalized learning environment where all students are well known by at least one adult and a peer mentor.
When?-are the meetings?- Dates(check staff guide) and when are you available for students and parents if they need to see you outside of the group.
Where?-can students find you if they need to get a hold of you. Where can students go for college and career information.
Why?-Goals of the Mentor Advisory Program(See above for outcomes)
Staff and peer leaders act in an advisory role and as an extension of our hard working Guidance Department. Through M-A-P, "Students can gain key academic and social competencies that they will need to navigate through high school and make a smooth transition to career or college. This gives them the opportunity to make meaningful connections with other students and with adults."

How?-Process Management and Transformation
- Monthly meetings with group to build connections
- Informal conferences with students "in-between" group meetings
- One parent conference per student per year
