“Begin with the End in Mind” Habit 3
Game Directions
1. Have each student get out a piece of paper and something to 3. Pass around bag of candy, have each student take out at least 5 pieces but no more than 10.
• Red = Name a hobby and why do you like it?
• Yellow = Describe a scary experience that you have had.
• Green = What makes you happy?
• Purple = Name a food you like.
• Orange = Name someone you admire.
Discussion: Discuss what it exactly means to “begin with the end in mind”. Talk about how it has helped them in the past or how it could help them in the future. Ex. studying at the beginning of the semester for a big test at then end and you will do good on you test.
Activity: Pass around “The Great Discovery” and either discuss the paper or have them fill it out.

Goal: To help students understand about the SAT’s and how to register to take them.

4. For each piece answer the question of the color. If you have more than one of a color answer the question that many times. If this occurs choose your favorite answer and share that answer when it comes time to share.
5. Go around room and share answers to each question you answered.

• About the SAT’s
o SAT-Scholastic Aptitude Test
o This is a test that will score you on your math and verbal skills
• New SAT’s
o Start Spring 2005
o Replaced Quantitative Comparison with Algebra 2 in the math section
o 3 sections
• Writing- 60 min. Tested on: Identifying Errors, Improving Sentences and paragraphs, Student Written Essay, Effectively Communicate a Viewpoint, Defining and Supporting a Position.
• Critical Reading-70 min. Tested on: Sentence Completions, passage based reading, measuring extended reasoning, literal comprehension, vocabulary in context
• Math- 70 min Tested on: Number and operations, Algebra 1 and 2, functions, geometry, statistics, probability, data analysis
o Total score is out of 2400 because of new section added. 3 sections worth 800 each
• Registering for SAT’s
o You can register for the SAT’s online or at your school.
• Office of your school will have forms to fill out to register for SAT’s
• www.collegeboard.com is a website that you can register for SAT’s on the internet.

SAT Practice:
Break the class up into groups of four (please break them up yourselves) and from the SAT Q&A questionnaire give them questions to answer. Don’t give them the answers till the end and see who gets more questions right. Try to make the questions a little hard since they are working together. This is to let the class know exactly what kid of questions will be on the SAT’s.
