Course Description:

 

These honors and IB level language courses cover all of the basic vocabulary, grammatical structures, verb tenses, and moods through the imperfect subjunctive.  Taught entirely in Spanish, these courses deal with advanced grammar and idiomatic expressions, classified vocabulary and the advanced study of moods and verb tenses.  The focus of the course of study is on the aspects of change, groups and leisure in Spanish and Spanish American cultures.  By reading, discussing journal writing and presenting their work, students will strengthen their abilities and skills in all areas of language studies.  Students are evaluated on their oral presentations, cultural regalia projects, written journal, composition reports and redactions, along with the multi-section departmental mid-semester and final examination.  The main difference between the Honors program and the Regular program is the length in readings, writing and oral presentations. 

 

 

Course Goals/Objectives:

 

Students are expected to be able to:

-Demonstrate proficiency, accuracy and variety in the spoken and writing word.

-Demonstrate a sensitivity and appreciation of that spoken and written word.

-Express opinions on topical matters and situations.

-Participate comfortably in small group discussions.

-Express an appreciation for the different perspectives of people from other countries.

-Continue their use and knowledge of foreign language based technology. 

 

 

Instructional Methods:

 

Teacher oriented lecture/grammar instruction, collaborative/peer teaching and learning, journal entry and sharing/oral presentations, situational skits.

Make-up Work Policy:

 

The student should contact me as soon as he/she returns to school after being absent, even if he/she does not have class with me that day.  The student can contact me by e-mail Cordero@olgchs.org, by phone ext.3345, and in person.   All students are encouraged to seek extra help whenever necessary.

 

Classroom Procedures/Policies:

 

-The student has to be prepared, on dress code, and on time for every class.

- The student must respect his/her classmates, the teacher, substitute teachers, and the school’s              physical property, including desks and chairs, technological equipment, walls and any display of art.

- The student must raise his/her hand every time he/she needs to talk and wait for the teacher’s prompt to speak.

- The student must not leave his/her seat unless the teacher tells him/her otherwise.

-  Any assignments done by on-line Internet translators are forms of plagiarism and will result in a grade of ZERO.

- The use of the target language is imperative.
