Monday, May 01, 2006 Students were given a survey to help them to evaluate their maturity level.  From this handout the students are to to select one area that needs improvement and draw something that represents that area in the center of their paper (the bulls' eye-something that you are going to work hard to hit).  Around the bull's eye the student will diagram 6 areas of maturity that they are strong in.  This assignment is due Friday, May 5.

Students were given progress reports in health.  These need to be signed and returned.  I also passed by the mental health test.  Students may make corrections to their test and resubmit the test for a second grade.  The deadline for this is Friday.

Student should study for the mental health test.  Part I is on Wednesday.  The students generated 10 questions.  I will ask them 5 of the questions.  Part II is on Thursday.  The students will need to know about depression, the value of positive thinking, signs and symptoms of depression, symptoms of either mood disorders, anxiety or Schizophrenia.  Lastly, the students should know the steps to making a good decision.

Monday, January 30, 2006 11:59:37 AM Today in Health class we discussed information from Friday's DATELINE show that dealt with student safety and My, Space.  We also worked in class on  questions that relate to our unit on Mental Health. 

In the upcoming days we will be discussing adolescent depression as well as ways to deal with our stress.  We will also be using the decision making model to do some problem solving.

There was no homework tonight.

 

 

December 21, 2005  Finish in class work. If you forgot your video reviews, those should also be turned in on December 22.

January 5, 2006.  Students should write 5 to 7 sentences explaining why it is important to stay drug free.

Tomorrow we begin family life and human development.  We will be reviewing the information that the students should have learned in the 7th grade.

January 6, 2006.  The students were given the Flour Baby Project.  The flour baby practical project begins at 12:00 a.m. on the 8th and ends at 11:59 on the 9th.  The students will need a 5 lb bag of flour or sugar for this project.  The students should secure the flour/sugar with masking tape or duck tape.  Some time between 1:00 and 4:00 in the morning the student should get up and sit with their flour baby for 15 to 20 minutes. 

The written portion of this project requires the student to interview one of their parents or another adult who has been a parent.  There is also a section that deals with financial needs when raising a child through the age of 1.  Please encourage your child to start early on completing the written section of the project.  The entire project is due on 1/20/06.

January 11

Today we continued our review of the male and female reproductive system.  We discussed the menstrual cycle and menstruation. The students will see the video, Everyday Miracle of Birth tomorrow.  This video deals with fetal development. The students don't actually see a birth.

Please check with your son/or daughter to see if they turned in their paragraph on the importance of being drug free.

On going homework assignment - The Flour Baby Project is due on Friday.
