GRADING POLICY
FACTORS AFFECTING THE STUDENT’S GRADE
1. Major tests announced in advance and assigned a point value based on the number of questions.
2. Announced or pop quizzes assigned a point value based on the number of questions. Pop quizzes may follow reading or outline assignments.
3. Labs will receive a point value based upon the length of the lab. Students who miss lab activities will be required to make up the labs after school, obtain lab information from lab partners, or do alternate assignments depending on the situation. Lab techniques will be graded periodically. The ability of a lab group to remain on task and follow appropriate safety rules will be an integral part of these evaluations.
4. Group presentations may be graded periodically. These may be assigned in advance or may be related to a just completed lab activity.
5. Full credit will be awarded for assignments and labs that have been turned in on time. One-half credit will be given for work that is turned in late. That includes later in the day following when the work was due and work turned in the next day of the class. NO WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED LATER THAN ONE DAY LATE.
6. Final Exams will be given in all classes. They will count 10% of the course grade, will be listed separately from your term grades on the report card, and will be averaged in with your term grades to calculate your final course grade.
7. A warm-up notebook is required in all classes. They should be kept in a spiral notebook separate from other notes and are assigned a value of one point per day. Warm-up notebooks may be collected without notice.
Grading Scale
Report card grades will be given based on the percentage of total points earned by a student over the course of the term. The course grade is based on the following. 60% of the grade comes from tests and quizes. The remaining 40% comes from all other graded assignments. Report card letter grades will be based on the following scale.
90%-100%=A,
80%-89%=B,
70%-79%=C,
60%-69%=D,
less than 60%=E
Bonus Available Each Term
At the end of the term a 1% bonus will be added to the grade of all students who have no zeros for the entire term. Anyone caught cheating will receive a zero for that assignment or test and other penalties may also be garnered.
