Mr. Hortert's Expectations and Hints for Success

Things I expect from each student each day:
· Come to class on time with all required materials. (homework, calculator, writing utensil, book, warm-up book, notebook)
· Take time to read the objectives on the board, the activities that will be done, and the assignments that may be listed.
· Be respectful of the rights of others. This includes being respectful to the teacher. This does not include talking while instruction is taking place or getting off assigned tasks when group work is being done.
· Ask me for help when they do not understand what they are doing.
· Ask me for additional help after school when the need arises.

Things parents can do to help their child be successful.
· Ask your child to show them their warm-up book each night. The warm-up book is a great resource to study each night.
· Encourage your child to spend a minimum of 30 minutes per night studying their science material. Sometimes they will need to spend more. The important thing is consistency. Learning a little bit each night works!
· Encourage your child to strive for more than just passing grades. The majority of the students have the ability to get A's and B's if they so choose.
· Encourage your child to realize that grades really do count. They count toward graduation, toward scholarships, and they count toward acceptance into colleges, trades schools, the military, and the workplace.

Things parents/students can access via the Internet
· Parents can receive weekly updates of their student's grades vie email. To sign up for this service contact the guidance office.
· Parents and students can access their assignments, course syllabus, classroom rules and much more through my Thinkport web page and my edblog at:
