Below you will find an attachment of literary terms and devices (AP Lit Terms 10-11) . This will be your first homework assignment -- you are to study these terms in preparation for two introductory quizzes.
All dates in RED indicate that a homework assignment is due that day.
September 10 -- Discussion Board Topic #1
September 15 -- Literary Terms Test #1. Study the literary terms and devices on pages. 1-10 of the handout below. You will be given a quiz on these terms that will ask you to match the term with the definition and identify devices used in passages. If you do not receive a grade of 80% or higher, you will be expected to retest until you do.
September 23 -- Literary Terms Test #2. Study the literary terms and devices on pages. 11-21 of the handout below. You will be given a quiz on these terms that will ask you to match the term with the definition and identify devices used in passages. If you do not receive a grade of 80% or higher, you will be expected to retest until you do.
September 26 -- by 11 PM tonight, turn in journal entry for Act 1 of Hamlet.
September 27-- Complete homework for Act 1 of Hamlet and be prepared for a test on it that will ask you to paraphrase passage and analyze character and literary devices used in the text. Be sure to paraphrase (substitute all nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs, but maintain the syntax of the passage) all major speeches and any other passages you need to. Be prepared for a test. The following link will take you to Shakespeare Defined, which is a site where you can pull up an e-copy of Hamlet. Hold your cursor over each word in red, and a definition will pop up. This will help greatly with your paraphrasing.

October 20 -- Poem #1 due. If at any time you run out of poetry charts you will find one below that you can download and print.

October 22 -- Complete homework for Act 3 of Hamlet and be prepared for a test on it that will ask you to paraphrase lines and analyze characters and literary devices used.
October 27 -- by 11 PM tonight, turn in TWO separate journal entries for Act 4 and Act 5 of Hamlet.
October 28 -- Complete homework for Acts 4 AND 5 of Hamlet and be prepared for a test on it that will ask you to paraphrase lines and analyze characters and literary devices used.
November 4 -- Poem #2 due.
November 10 -- Poem #3 due.
November 18 -- Poem #4 due.
December 3 -- Poem #5 due.
December 12 -- Hamlet paper is due by 11 pm tonight. A hard copy of the paper is due in class the next day, Monday, December 13.
