How many library books may I check out at a time?
You may check out up to three items at a time. You are limited, however, to two magazines at a time. So in other words, you may get three books, two books and one magazine, or one book and two magazines.
May I check out new materials if I have overdue items on my record?
No, you must return or pay for overdue items before checking out new items.
What if I can't find my overdue items?
Stop by the circulation desk and we will tell you how much your book or magazine costs so that you can pay for the item(s) you lost.
What if I find my lost items after I've paid for them?
If, while you are a student at Magothy River, you return the items you paid for to the library we will reimburse you your money.
What if I damage my library book?
It really depends on the type of damage done. If we can repair the damage all is well, but if we cannot we will have to ask you to pay for the item.
When may I visit the library?
Every two weeks you are scheduled to visit the library with your language arts class, but you may visit us more frequently than that on your own. For instance, you may get a pass from your teacher to visit the media center during class and you are always welcome to slip into the media center between classes to drop off a book. Additionally, with permisson from the staff on lunch duty you may visit the media center after you have eaten to check-out a book and/or read silently.
Is the library open after school?
See Mrs. McDowell in advance if you need to use the library after school on activity bus days. We will do everything we can to accomodate your needs.
How do I find a book in the media center?
You should always first try to find the book you want using the online catalog. The catalog will allow you to find books by keyword, subject, title, and author. If after trying, you still cannot find the book you want, please feel free to ask Mrs. McDowell for help.
What if the book I want is not in the library collection?
If you know of a book that you really want to see in our collection, you should give Mrs. McDowell or Mrs. K the title of the book and the author's name if you know it. We will then research the book to see if it is approved in our county for middle school students. If it is, I will put it on my list to order.
